Disneyland Increases Ticket Prices

As it has become an annual event for Disney this time of year, the park admission prices are going up.  As of August 5th the ticket price increase will be as follows:

TICKET (NEW) ADULT (NEW) CHILD (OLD) ADULT (OLD) CHILD Increased By
1-DAY $76 $68 $72 $62 $4, $6
1-DAY PARK HOPPER $101 $91 $97 $87 $4, $4
2-DAY $151 $136 —- —- —-
2-DAY PARK HOPPER $161 $146 $151 $131 $10, $15
3-DAY PARK HOPPER $206 $185 $184 $154 $22, $30
4-DAY PARK HOPPER $231 $208 $199 $169 $32, $39
5-DAY PARK HOPPER $251 $226 $209 $179 $42, $47
6-DAY PARK HOPPER $256 $230 $214 $184 $42, $46
SOUTHERN CALI SELECT ANNUAL PASS $184 —- $169 —- $15
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ANNUAL PASS $239 —- $219 —- $20
DELUXE ANNUAL PASS $329 —- $299 —- $30
PREMIUM ANNUAL PASS $459 —- $439 —- $20

When you look at the break down there are two interesting points.  First, the child’s price is seeing a steeper increase than the adult and two, the Deluxe Annual Pass is getting a big jump.  A $30 increase is ten more dollars than the SoCal and even the Premium.

Disneyland also raised Annual Pass ticket prices in January of this year, seperate from the rise this time last year.  This means you could be seeing a $30 – $45 increase from this time last year!

Disneyland has come along way since these little guys

Disney spokeswoman, Suzi Brown was quoted in the Orange County register Tuesday as saying; “When you compare a Disney park to a concert or professional sporting event, we offer a great value and a full day of world-class entertainment.” (link). This is very true, and the ticket increase is to be expected.  However, Disneyland has seen some major increases over the last decade.  I came across an old paper ticket from January of 2000, and the Southern California Resident price was $31 for an adult ($43 regular), a $33 increase over 10 years for one park.  However, the annual passport is still a great deal.  If you purchased a Premium Annual Passport and visited the park only once a month for that year, your daily price would be only $38.25.  Factor in the discounts and the parking that you got for free each time and your admission would be even lower, and of course most Premium pass holders go to the parks much more than once a month.

If you are looking to purchase your Annual Pass, then I suggest you do it very soon.  The increases take effect on August 5.  Oh, and don’t worry East Coast(ers) your tickets at Walt Disney World are going up too!

What is your opinion of the price hike?  Does it come at a bad time with the economy in a slump?
