The count down to 2011 at Disneyland is a very fun and dynamic way to enjoy the night out. Because it is Disney, it is also guaranteed to be a “family friendly” environment. It is for this reason that I enjoy bringing in the New Year at Disneyland. Here is the line up for NYE 2010!
Hours at both parks have been extended past mid-night; naturally. Disneyland is set to close at 2 am and it’s little cousin, California Adventure at 1 am. At Disneyland you can expect “countdown” stages to be set up in various locations of the park, such as in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Live bands will be playing at the Tomorrowland Terrace, Carnation Plaza, and New Orleans Square, although no band names have yet to be announced. Fantasmic! will light up the night three times at 9, 10:15 and just after the midnight fireworks wrap up. And of course those midnight fireworks will light up as soon as the calendar switches to 2011!
At California Adventure the World of Color will get involved with a “special” entertainment set up along the Paradise Pier boardwalk area. Disney is touting this as “The Fountains and Fireworks” countdown to midnight in Paradise Park. And of course once the calendar flips over World of Color will light up for a midnight showing. Of course ElecTRONica will be electrifying the backlot all night as well.
Disney will be handing out party hats and noisemakers starting at 6pm. You can pick up your party favors at the Festival Arena area in Disneyland or at California Adventure in Condor Flats near the vintage airplane between Soarin’ Over California and the Grand Californian Hotel entrance. Get yours quickly, quantities are limited.
The entertainment is lined up in such a way as to spread the guests out at midnight, this is necessary so that you don’t have 100,000 guests tying to get a seat in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle for the midnight fireworks. Fantasmic!, World of Color and the “Fantasy in the Sky” New Year’s fireworks show will be the three major shows at midnight, and it should force guests to spread out a bit. If you are planning on going to the Disneyland Resort for your New Years Eve celebrations, bring plenty of patience. It can be a very busy night, but also a very fun, family friendly way to celebrate the new year!
Happy New Year!
