Disneyland Resort Photo Report for January 2, 2012.
Welcome Back to the Disneyland Resort
Hand stamps were required most of this past week for all guests, including annual passholders. Extremely high capacity did force Disneyland’s turnstiles to close a few times, however it did not seem to be as crowded this year as in years past. Perhaps because more guests are heading over to Disney California Adventure park by choice, as in years past guests would show up to the resort wanting only to go into Disneyland park.

This week’s update is a short one, the holidays have kept us very busy, but we’ll be back to our normal schedule next weekend.
The last week of 2011 saw high crowds, we expected that, but what we didn’t expect was the sudden cancellation of the popular holiday firework show, “Believe…In Holiday Magic”. Disneyland’s fireworks were suddenly canceled prior to show time on December 23rd. At the time, all Disney would say was that the show was canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances”. Within a few days we learned that a Disney employee suffered possible ear damage after a firework prematurely detonated in a launch tube. The employee heard a strange sound and moved away from the launch tube quickly, avoiding potential burns. The fireworks that had already been loaded in the tubes were used for the Christmas night presentation, but the show continued to be on hiatus until OSHA, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, could figure out what to do. In the mean time, Disney added a third showing of Fantasmic! and World of Color to help entertain the tens-of-thousands of holiday guests at the resort. In the end, OSHA did not preform an inspection, and in regards to Disneyland’s fireworks, a state deputy fire marshal was quoted in the OC Register as saying, “The safety record of Disneyland is almost flawless..I’ve never had any reports of anything major occurring.” ”Believe…in Holiday Magic” was back on the evening of December 30th; this meant that the fireworks could be displayed for New Years Eve.

Buena Vista Street
Buena Vista Street’s skyline is starting to take shape and is very visible outside of the park.

Inside the park, the Carthay Circle Theatre is almost completely uncovered!

The wrought iron around the entrance to the Theatre, which will serve as an entrance to the restaurant and lounges, can be seen.

New neon signs are up along the east side of Route 66.

Over at Disneyland the Jolly Holiday Bakery is nearing completion and is rumored to open in the first few weeks of January.

A true Disneyland legend, Oscar Martinez celebrated his 55th anniversary with Disneyland this past week. Oscar started working at Disneyland as a busboy only 17 months after the park opened. He now works as a chef at the Carnation Cafe on Main Street and can always be seen greeting guests with a smile!
I took these pictures on Friday, December 30th, Oscar’s 55th anniversary at Disneyland. I figured they captured his spirit well…
