Disneyland Releases an Official Wait Time App

Disneyland Releases an Official Wait Time App, ‘Mobile Magic’.  The app was first made available 3 years ago exclusively for Verizon customers giving them access to the park’s official wait times and Fastpass return times.  The app also features show times, attraction information, behind the scenes videos, GPS mapping of the parks and maps of the hotels and the Downtown Disney District.  With the app now coming to iPhone and Android, more guests can now get access to the magic.

The App not only covers the Disneyland Resort, but also the Walt Disney World Resort parks.

Disney’s contract with Verizon gives those users some premium features including behind the scenes videos, a ‘Pirates’ trivia game, a Disney Character Puzzle, and a Disney Character Quiz.

As excited I am to use Mobile Magic in the parks, it does have a big limitation; you can not view actual attraction wait times and Fastpass return times unless your device’s GPS shows you are physically in the park.  Instead you will receive an generic wait time such as, “High Demand” or “See Now”.

So how does this app compare to others?  As you know, our Weekly Photo & News Reports are sponsored by Touring Plans, who has a mobile app called Lines.  I have used Lines for over a year now and I really enjoy having wait times, predictions and the social chat rooms available on my iPhone.  The new GPS mapping feature of Disney’s Mobile Magic is a very nice feature, as is the ability to play mobile games and make dining reservations. However, Disney’s Mobile Magic app is only available in the US iTunes App Store. Also, If you want to see actual wait times before choosing to head out to Disneyland, you’re out of luck.  Touring Plans’ Lines app gives you the ability to see current wait times based upon users submissions as well as historical data, no matter what your location!  Lines also gives you predictions for wait times, Fastpass return times, crowd calendars, as well as access to actual Touring Plans to help guide you through the park, taking the guess work out of “what should we do next”, so you can do more during your visit.

Touring Plans Lines iPhone App

Disney’s Mobile Magic and Lines are both free downloads, however Lines requires an inexpensive yearly subscription to access all features. The Touring Plans app, now simply called ‘Touring Plans’, offers free wait times and predictions.

Personally I will be using both Lines and Mobile Magic.  Each app has specific features that will be very useful when visiting the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts!

Visit Touring Plans for more information and to download Lines for iOS, Android, Blackberry or run in your smartphone’s mobile browser!

Mobile Magic is now available to download for free in the iOS App Store and Android Marketplace.
