Celebrating America's Independence Day at the Disneyland Resort

The Disneyland Resort has announced the schedule for the 2012 Independence Day, July 4th holiday weekend. Both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure park will be joining in the patriotic celebration this year on the evenings of July 1st – 4th.

At Disney California Adventure, a patriotic spectacular will bring Paradise Pier to life just prior to each World of Color showing. Last year, in 2011, a four-in-a-half minute patriotic “pre-show” occurred using fountains, music, projections of icons such as Mount Rushmore and the Lincoln Memorial on water screens and low level fireworks. Each night a World of Color performance is scheduled for 9pm and 10:15pm. Make sure to obtain your FastPass show tickets at the Grizzly River Run FastPass Distribution location during the day.

Across the way at Disneyland, the traditional “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” will show each night at 9:30pm. This is a traditional showing of large, high altitude fireworks set to Disney and Patriotic music. Disneyland’s Hub and Main Street fill up early as this firework show is very popular. Disneyland will also play host to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band on July 4, 2012, and will perform in several locations through the day. At 5:10pm, they will honor America by playing at the Flag Retreat Ceremony in Town Square. At 6:15pm, the Marine Band will march ahead of Mickey’s Soundsational Parade and at 7:15pm, they will perform a concert of patriotic favorites and Disney medleys at the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree.

The week of the Independence Day holiday is traditionally very busy at the Disneyland Resort, together with the recent opening of Cars Land, guests arriving at the parks for the holiday should be prepared for larger than normal crowds and longer waits. But that aside, experiencing Disneyland for America’s Independence Day celebrations is a great event, and well worth contending with the summer crowds.
