The Golden Horseshoe Revue is once again entertaining Disneyland guests in Frontierland. As part of the 2013 Disney Parks promotion, Limited Time Magic, guests can once again experience this classic variety show. A live band, can-can girls and Miss Lily herself began to entertain guests this morning on the Golden Horseshoe stage.
The Golden Horseshoe Revue first debuted at Disneyland on opening day, July 17, 1955, and ran through 1986. The show’s early days featured such talents as Wally Boag and Betty Taylor.
“A Salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue” is a 20 minute tribute and contains mostly music, dancing and sketch comedy. This version is centered around Miss Lily and her saloon girls.
For someone who either never saw, or has faded memories of the original Golden Horseshoe Revue, I completely enjoyed the performance. These photos and video were shot during the first public performance in front of an excited crowd, which was clapping and cheering along. The show is extremely entertaining, despite the lack of the Wally Boag style comedy. Of course one has to ask if that should even be touched, in which case I feel Disney made the right decision. Even though Wally Boag didn’t hold an exclusive role as Pecos Bill, he held it the longest, and will forever be attributed with the role.
“A Salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue” is making its limited run five times a day, Thursdays through Mondays, from now through February 4, 2013. Show times are 11:30, 12:45, 2pm, 4pm, and 5:15pm. Guests must obtain a free ticket to the show by visiting the podium outside of the Golden Horseshoe – guests also must have admission into Disneyland. Annual Passholders can purchase tickets to attend a special 6:30 p.m. dinner performance as well. (more information)
